Buescher 21A Saxophone

Vintage Oil
This Buescher is an inexpensive horn that I received from a teacher in the area who didn’t have the time to learn how to repad it, so I have taken on the role. At first glance it looks like it will require a cleaning/oiling, new pads, some minor dentwork, new neck cork, and hopefully I can find a way to remove the smell in the case because it’s in very good condition and looks very cool. Also happened to come with an old bottle of key oil and pad cement seen at the left.

Dent Removal

Neck dent removal

Large dent in the front of the neck from someone adjusting the octave key with the old brute force and ignorance method. Removed the dent using a small home made dent rod.

Be mindful of what your adjustments in one spot might do to another. The saxophone is fantastically interlinked and one ignorant fix in one place will usually cause a bigger problem somewhere else.

Updated: I originally chose Music Medic’s Soft Feel Thick pads for this horn with rivets for resonators to see how they would sound without the large resonators I am used to. The current owner of this horn remarked that he liked the darker sound of this instrument and to preserve it while changing his horn over to Music Medic’s RooPads. The horn is now sporting brown RooPads, again with rivet resonators.
